Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Inside the teeth, there is a tissue consisting of connective tissue which is responsible for the functions of the tooth such as nutrition, defense and feeling. This tissue is called pulp, and the pulpal tissue extends along a channel starting from the tooth crown that appears in the mouth up to the root tip.

Endodontics is the branch of science that examines the periapical tissue diseases surrounding the pulp and the tooth.Thedentists who have a doctorate or specialty in the field of endodontics are called “endodontists”.

How it is done?

Root Canal treatment is a painless procedure performed under local anesthesia. The treatment can be completed in one or more sessions depending on the inflammatory condition of the tooth being treated. In the root canal treatment, there is a wound healing process after treatment because the connective tissue, bacteria and dead cells in the root canal are removed. Therefore, in the days following treatment, pain may occur when pressed on the treated tooth. This process can vary from 2 days to 3 weeks.Depending on the severity of the pain, it may be necessary to use painkillers. In some cases, pain, swelling, fever, weakness may occur, in such cases, it may be necessary to use antibiotics if the physician deems it necessary. The success rate of root canal treatment was reported to range from 50 to 95% in several studies.

The success rate of root canal treatment was reported to range from 50 to 95% in several studies. The most important factors affecting the success are the anatomical structure of the tooth, the knowledge, skills and experience of the dentist, the material quality used in the treatment and the sealed upper restoration.Following a successful canal treatment, a sealed filling or coating ensures that the tooth in question will function within the mouth for many years.A canal-treated tooth is no different from a normal tooth in function. However, if the filling or coating after the root canal treatment does not have sufficient sealing, the bacteria can reach the root canal again in the long term and cause the root canal treatment to fail. The root canal treatment is a reproducible procedure and in cases of failure, the first treatment option should be renewal of root canal treatment, not tooth extraction.
